Street Fighter 6’s EVO 2026 Storylines Worth Watching
EVO 2026 has the deepest Street Fighter 6 field the series has fielded since 2019. Four storylines define the bracket before pools start.
Storyline one: Punk’s shot at the first ever back-to-back EVO SF6 title. He has won six of the last eight major SF6 events and looks more confident on Cammy than any character in the entire field. Storyline two: Tokido’s post-character-switch resurgence on Akuma — a player who was written off six months ago is now in the top three favorite contenders.
Storyline three: MenaRD’s return to form. The Dominican Republic player went 0-2 at three majors in 2025 but has won two regional events in early 2026. The Blanka pivot looks real this time. Storyline four: Kawano’s entry as the LCS Japan champion qualifies him via a path that did not exist 12 months ago.
Beyond the names, the field depth is the story. Roughly 40 players in the registered field have a top-8 finish at a major in the last 12 months — vs 22 in the 2025 EVO field. SF6’s competitive ecosystem has matured.
Punk back-to-back is the favored outcome. Tokido on Akuma is the story to watch in the bracket. Field depth is the macro signal that SF6’s competitive scene is healthy.
