Ad Spend Across Gaming Media in 2026 — Down Again

By The Frag Hub Desk · April 25, 2026

Gaming-media ad spend has been compressing for three years. The Q1 2026 numbers continue the trend with one notable bifurcation.

Endemic ad spend (hardware, peripherals, game publishers) is up 4% YoY — the first positive print since 2022. Non-endemic ad spend (consumer brands, fintech, energy drinks, automotive) is down 11% YoY. Total gaming-media ad spend is down roughly 3% — softer than the 8-10% drops seen in 2024 and 2025, but still negative.

The bifurcation matters because gaming publishers’ historical commercial scale was built on non-endemic dollars. With those compressing structurally, the path to revenue stability runs through better endemic-advertiser monetization (programmatic guarantees, sponsored content, affiliate). Several of the larger gaming-media properties have visibly restructured their sales orgs around exactly that.

The Hub Take

Endemic spend recovering, non-endemic still bleeding. Gaming-media businesses that pivoted commercial focus 18 months ago are visibly outperforming.
