Crypto Miner Earnings Post-Halving — The Real Survivors

By The Frag Hub Desk · April 25, 2026

Two years after the 2024 halving, the public Bitcoin miner cohort has thinned visibly. The Q1 2026 earnings cycle reveals which structures actually work.

Marathon Digital posted positive operating income for the third consecutive quarter, supported by aggressive grid-services revenue and a sharply lower cost-of-energy line after the Texas datacenter expansion. Riot Platforms remains break-even at best after carrying too much debt through the post-halving margin compression. CleanSpark is the surprise — vertically integrated and benefiting from cheap power purchase agreements that competitors couldn’t replicate.

What’s clear is that the survivor profile requires either grid-services optionality (Marathon), unique power contracts (CleanSpark), or both. Pure-play hashrate-only miners with above-industry energy costs are still bleeding through 2026 and likely will not exist as standalone public companies by 2027.

The Hub Take

Marathon and CleanSpark survive. The pure-hashrate cohort is structurally finished. Two more quarters and the public-miner sector consolidates further.
