Do You Actually Need a Teleprompter as a Streamer?
Teleprompters used to be a broadcast-TV-only piece of kit. In 2026, they show up on enough streamer setups that the question is worth asking honestly.
The case for: if you read sponsor scripts, run scheduled segments, or do any kind of educational content, a teleprompter visibly improves eye-line and pacing. Glide Gear and Elgato both ship desktop-mounted units in the $200-400 range that integrate cleanly with OBS.
The case against: for the typical “just chatting” or gameplay streamer, a teleprompter actively hurts the casual energy that drew viewers in the first place. Reading off a script reads as reading off a script — viewers pick up on it within a few minutes.
Our middle-ground recommendation is the Elgato Prompter at $279. It works as a normal monitor when you are not using it, and the OBS integration means scripts can be triggered scene-by-scene without interrupting the stream flow.
If you read sponsor copy or run educational content, a teleprompter is worth it. If you are a “react and play” streamer, skip it.
